Meet Radar

Radar's first human purchased him as a puppy at 13 weeks old. Unfortunately they didn't have time for Radar, and he spent the next 3 months living in a kennel with no opportunity to learn about the outside world. A kind person recognized Radar needed a better life and that's when Radar made his way to us!

When Radar first arrived in rescue, he was fearful and reactive when meeting new people and other dogs. Fortunately, when he had time to properly meet a stranger, he calmed down.

To help him on the road to a better life Radar was sent to board and train facility where he completed a 3-week course and learned to walk like a gentleman on leash, learned all his basic obedience commands, and gained experience in being out and about in public.

After training, Radar moved to his foster home. He is house trained and crate trained. He loves going for rides in a car and rides well when crated. He sleeps through the night in his crate without needing to go out. Radar is food motivated and has a soft mouth when taking treats. He is a strong swimmer and loves playing in water.

Radar's foster humans are reinforcing this youngster's training with public outings where he's getting great lessons on how to stay calm and confident at busy places like Home Depot.

Radar is sharing his foster home with 4 adult German Shepherds. He is allowed free time with the other dogs but always in a controlled setting. In his forever home, we think he can live well with a well-matched large breed dog, but due to his youthful energy, he will not be a suitable companion for all dogs.

Radar is still very young and needs to go to a person or family that has prior experience raising and training a German Shepherd or other working-dog breed puppy. His new people will need to dedicate time to continue his education and expose him to new situations and ensure he is properly socialized with people and dogs.

Radar has a fairly strong prey drive and should not go to a home with cats or small dogs. At 9 months old and still growing, he weighs about 75 pounds. Due to his large size and general youthful exuberance he would not be a good match for a home with small children.

If this gorgeous youngster sounds like a great fit for your home and family, please apply to adopt!
