MUST LIVE IN ROCHESTER, NY AREA TO ADOPT. Required a companion dog to help her continue to learn and having a physically fenced in yard for her to safely run and play in.

Update: Rachel has been in her foster home for a little over a month. Rachel has started to come out of her shell and shows more of her goofy personality! Rachel does approach her foster mom for attention if her foster mom is sitting on the floor. She enjoys sleeping on the dog bed under her moms desk while she works. Rachel has shown improvement in using pee pads to go potty. She still goes outside but only to stretch and run around in the snow. While Rachel is not your typical dog and has her own quarks, her foster mom knows their is a home put their who will understand Rachel and show her the love she deserves!

Meet Rachel! Rachel is a roughly 5 year old sheltie who was rescued from a puppymill. Like many puppymill dogs Rachel does not understand exactly what it means to be a dog. She will need a home that is patient and understanding. Rachel loves attention but does not like to be approached and will run away from you but then will run up when she feels comfortable. She runs away when you try to pick her up but nervously seems to like being held. Rachel is not potty trained but is working hard on learning to use potty pads. Rachel enjoys going outside when she is allowed to run right outside without anyone touching her. Rachel has warmed up to her foster mom and plays outside, run up to and away from her foster mom but she does not seem to think of outside as a place to go potty yet. Rachel seems to enjoy chewing on bones and her favorite stuffed animal is a little fox that looks just like her. Rachel has a lot to learn but has so much personality waiting for the right person she trusts.


She will be going to their adoptive home under a foster to adopt contract until her spay is complete. You would be required to get her to our vet clinic for 7:30 am date TBD, in Rochester and then pick up (3 to 4 pm) from rescue to finalize adoption at that time. For this reason we will not adopt to anyone outside our immediate adoption area. We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs and require home visits. Must live in area to adopt, will not respond to out of area/country requests. Additionally, if fencing is required it must be a physical fence and in place at time of home visit.
