Meet puppy mill

UPDATE --  ALL THE LITTLE CHIS FROM THIS KENNEL CLOSING HAVE FOUND THEIR FOREVER HOMES.  THE BEST NEWS OF ALL -- OHIO PASSED THEIR PUPPY MILL BILL AFTER 7 YEARS IN LEGISLATION!!  THE COMMERCIAL KENNEL BUSINESS WILL NOW BE REGULATED BY THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE.  THERE WILL BE NO MORE PLACES LIKE THIS AND THERE WILL BE NO MORE "MILL DOGS" IN OHIO.  THANKS TO ALL THAT MADE THAT HAPPEN!!

The Richland County Ohio Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States worked together to close a kennel in Shelby Ohio with more then 300 dogs; 280 of them Chihuahuas. This was the kennel of a former show/breeder with convictions of animal cruelty in NJ dating as far back as 1991. Dogs were kept in deplorable conditions, several to a cage, cages stacked two high.

On August 17 HSUS started the dispersal of the dogs. Star-Mar Rescue, an Emergency Placement Partner with HSUS, took 16 dogs into rescue. Partnering with Marilyn's voice (www.marilynsvoice.org) all 16 dogs were placed into foster homes where they are receiving the TLC and vetting needed in preparing them for adoption.

Ohio has become a haven for animal breeders, often convicted of animal cruelty in other states as there are no state regulations for commercial breeding kennels.  Senate Bill 130 sets standards and inspections for these facilities.  Please help Ohio to pass this bill by contacting your Senator and Representative.  Be their voice, make a difference!!
