Meet Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a Pi pup :) She came in with sister, Strawberry, and brother, Blackberry, from a family that decided they have too many dogs.

With a birthdate of March 14, 2020, Pumpkin weighs just under 40 lb. We've included a picture of mom & dad.

Pumpkin lived the first two years of her life in the yard where she was born. Although very scared, she offered no resistance when carried from her surrendering owner's home. She has become comfortable at her foster's and is doing well with the foster pack. Her preferred playstyle is running and isn't interested at this time in playing with the other dogs. She would play with her siblings, Blackberry and Strawberry, but they've been adopted. She doesn't seem to mind, though, and is now focusing her attention on her foster mom.

She wants to herd her packmates, so when running loose with them in the yard will occasionally nip at one in particular. The males are usually not bothered by her, so being in a home with a male dog might be best.

Pumpkin is walking well on a leash. She's house-trained when kept on a regular schedule. She's affectionate and craves attention from people. She's slightly suspicious of strangers, but warms up quickly as she loves being petted and admired.

Pumpkin will bark for attention and to object being separated from her foster mom. Initially she barked obnoxiously when crated, if her people were still in the house. This behavior has diminished, but might reapper in a new home. She might need reinforcement to recall her best manners. She sleeps quietly during the night and is comfy in a 42" crate which allows her room to sprawl.

Pumpkin doesn't pay attention to the house cats, but might chase a cat if it will run. She no longer barks at new dogs, but will greet and sniff as appropriate.

**********

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
