Meet Porter

Meet Porter! This sweet little 14 week old (as of 6-8-12) boy is a Border Collie - Pit Bull type dog blend who is ready to go home and snuggle and play with you.

Porter and his litter mates were born to Mama Maya who was rescued from an owner surrender. Had Mama Maya not been saved--he and is litter mates would not be here today, catching everyone's eye.

Since he's been on his Pit Stop in foster care, he's been working on sit, come, "in" to go in his crate (which he loves and goes in on his own for naps) and is also working on his house training (going great!) and walking nicely on a leash. He was shy at first, but has already come out of his shell and will need an adopter who is experienced in raising a dog from puppyhood, who can show him the ropes and provide consistent and patient, positive training. It will help continue to grow his confidence and help him build a solid foundation of good manners and behaviors.

He loves to snuggle, but when he's had his fill, he likes his own bed, or the coolness of tile or hardwood floors. He loves water, enjoys bath time and doesn't even mind being blow-dried. Foster mom reports that Porter's shaggy hair makes him enjoy the cool weather--he doesn't mind the rain and climbs in her freezer whenever she opens the door!

This playful, goofy boy's ideal home would include loving, patient adults (possibly respectful children over 5 years old), another dog or two and a cat friend would be fine, as well. He is ready to experience the world and soak in all the learning ahead of him--are you ready for cuteness overload? Contact us today to start the process of bringing adorable Porter into your life!

BAPBR adoption guidelines:

Same-sex adoptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, though not preferred.

Indoor homes only - we do not adopt out "outdoor" dogs or "guard" dogs.

Please note that adoption applicants must own their own home. A BAPBR representative will conduct a home check. There will be no exceptions made to this rule, due to the frequent restrictions on apartments, and rental homes.

Didn't find the right match at BABPR? We are continuously working with many other animal shelters and rescues and are usually able to help connect you to another dog that may be a better fit for your family. Please email us at so that we might be able to assist you--our ultimate goal is to make sure all dogs find loving homes, no matter where they currently reside.

I am looking for a leader who will keep up my training, and always show me boundaries and consistency. This will ensure that I keep giving my breed a good name. Our personalities are energetic, loyal, intelligent, fun loving, and affectionate. We require intelligent, responsible, and dedicated leadership. Because of our undeserved negative media image, human companions living with Pit Bull Terrier type dogs have to be more careful and responsible than the average human dog companion.
