Meet Porkchop

*************************************

Porkchop came into a Louisiana shelter as a stray in July 2020 and lived there until Hurricane Laura hit in August. The shelter lost power and a local rescue group found out about Porkchop’s plight and he moved to their foster program. Porky is now looking for his forever home up North! He is a 4-5 year old Hound mix who weighs in at 55lbs.

His foster mom says, “Porkchop is a very sweet and affectionate boy who loves everyone he comes into contact with! He also is a friendly boy to new dogs he meets. He lives in the house with our family and gets along very well with my Weimaraner mix and my rescue Yorkie. He seems to be fairly indifferent to cats.

Porkchop is completely house trained. He starts to prance around and go to the door when he needs to potty! He learned very quickly, so he’s a smart boy!

We do put him in the crate when we leave, because he likes to explore and chew on things. (Watch out, though, because he is an adorable sock thief!) He also sleeps in his crate at night, and goes into it without any coaxing. This boy loves dark kennels!

Porkchop is an energetic boy, and he needs plenty of exercise! Daily walks or a big, fenced in backyard will be great for Porkchop. Because he is a hound and follows his nose, he needs to be in an enclosed area, or on a leash when he is outside. He is such a curious boy!

He also knows basic commands, and LOVES to shake! He is very polite when he takes a treat. He is a very quick learner. He walks well on a leash, and with a little more training, I believe he could learn to heel very easily. (Again, he’s very smart).

Although Porkchop loves every human he meets, he would do best in a home without small children. Sweet Porkchop has no idea how big he is! He gets very excited and tends to get a little rambunctious (he is learning, though!). If you sit on the floor, he will immediately crawl into your lap. He’s such a lap dog!

Porkchop is a very handsome hound. He will make a great companion, and deserves the best life with all the loves and cuddles.” Please email us at TheChiSociety@gmail.com and tell us what factors make you a good fit to give Porkchop a forever home and we will send you an application.

Porkchop is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations and monthly heartworm/flea/tick prevention. When he was first pulled from the shelter, Porkchop tested positive for heartworms, but was treated while in foster care and is now heartworm free.
