Poppy's Story
Meet Poppy

Breed: Carolina Dog
Age: 1 year
Weight: 35 lbs
Health Status: Spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped

Poppy is a young, healthy mixed-breed dog, about one year old. She’s an athletic and intelligent pup who is just starting to show her true personality. Shelter life has been a little overwhelming, but with gentle handling and tasty treats, she’s warming up and showing her sweet, thoughtful side.

We believe Poppy may have some Carolina Dog heritage, which often means she’s observant, sensitive, and cautious in new situations. Once she feels safe, she forms strong bonds and looks to her people for guidance. Agile and energetic, Poppy could be a great match for someone interested in dog sports or other fun activities.

Training & Support

Poppy will benefit from positive, reward-based training methods that focus on building trust and confidence. She’ll do best with predictable routines and gradual introductions to new experiences. Her adopter should be prepared to work on:

-Confidence-building and gentle socialization
-Safe handling and management to prevent flight behaviour
-Basic manners and trust-building activities

Ideal Home

Poppy would do best in a calm, patient home with people who understand that she needs time and consistency to feel secure. She may try to flee if startled, so her adopter must commit to safe handling and escape-proof routines during her transition.
Poppy needs a home with no other dogs, she has some some reactivity around food and we will be assessing it more. Cat compatibility was successful, she was interested but in a suitable manner. Best suited for homes with no children due to her fear-based behaviours.

Ready to Apply?

If you would like to meet Poppy, please download an application from our website:

https://vancouver.ca/adoption-form

Email your completed application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca

If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.
---------------------------------------------------------
All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks and are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.

Children: No, thank you
Cats: Yes
Dogs: No, thank you
Training Needs: Confidence-building, basic manners
Adoption Fee: $374
