Poppy's Story
Meet Poppy Bartholomew – a 4-year-old, 70 lb. American Staffordshire Terrier with a big heart and an even bigger personality.
Poppy is goofy, affectionate, and fiercely loyal - everything a good boy should be. He’s happiest when curled up near his people or zooming around the yard in a burst of joy. He thinks he’s a lap dog, and while he’s built like a linebacker, he loves like a teddy bear.
He’s housebroken, crate trained, knows basic commands, and thrives on routine. Walks are his favorite, but he can be reactive on leash – he does best with calm, confident handling. He’s lived happily with children, but his size and energy are better suited to older kids or teens. He warms up slowly to new people, but once you’re in, you’re his – forever.
He does not like being sprayed with hoses or baths. He has also had gotten sick when eating Pedigree Dentastix on multiple occasions, so we do not give those to him. He is crate trained and is very responsive to go in if there is a ‘reward’ involved. For smaller ‘good boy’ snacks (such as going to his crate) he will get a small Milkbone Maro snack, and when going to bed he will get a dog cookie (brand of choice is Three Dog Bakery).
Poppy needs to be the only pet. He’s not good with cats and has had limited dog socialization, though he has done well with familiar neighbor dogs through a fence. He’s sensitive and responds best to gentle leadership. He came from a rough start and needs someone who sees the good boy he is and leads with love.
We’re heartbroken to rehome him due to an international move where his breed is restricted. He’s family – and we want nothing more than to find a home that will love him the way we have.
He comes with his crate, collar, toys, and treats. All he needs now is someone to say, “Welcome home.”
