Poppi's Story
Meet Poppi! She is as sweet and bubbly as her name suggests! Poppi was found abandoned on a rural road in North Louisiana. She weighs 50 pounds and is around 1 year old. She appears to be a perfect mix of Lab and Black Mouth Cur.

Poppi is smart, curious, and has that perfect balance of energy and chill. She loves long walks, jogs with her human, and playing with other dogs! Her foster home has six dogs, from a senior Chihuahua to a big Lab mix, and Poppi fits right in with all of them.

Poppi is also respectful of dog-savvy cats. She does reeeaaalllyyyy want to play with them though. She and one of the kitties in her foster home play "pounce" frequently, although Poppi will back off when Church (the cat) swats her. That being said, she might chase a cat who runs, especially in an outdoor environment. A shy cat or one that is afraid of dogs could easily be intimidated by Poppi’s fun-loving nature. She does generally ignore the older, less playful cats.

Poppi loves meeting new people and is quick to make new friends of all species. She is friendly and approachable to all who enter her foster home! If you are looking for a dog who enjoys doggie day care or dog parks, Poppi is your girl! She is a social butterfly who loves going to doggie day care and is a staff favorite for her easy-going temperament.

When she’s not out exploring, Poppi is happy to curl up on her dog bed and take a well-earned nap (she takes her beauty rest seriously). Poppi walks nicely on a leash, crates like a champ, and is fully house trained. She absolutely loves to play, and if she can't convince one of the other dogs to play with her, she will happily toss her toys around by herself. Poppi loves to play outside and really enjoys being in her big backyard. And Poppi has no interest in leaving her yard as she truly appreciates being rescued and loves her home!

While Poppi doesn’t have any behavioral issues, she is a typical young dog with a good bit of energy. Left to her own devices, she is more than happy to steal a pair of socks from the closets, check out the counter, or chew on one of the dog beds. Typical young pup behavior! Poppi is crated at night and when her foster parents are not home, and she is not left unsupervised in the house for very long.
If Poppi were writing her own bio, she'd probably say that her ideal human would love long walks, interspersed with a good jog or hike, and they would have another dog who wants to play! And most importantly, lots of treats, because this girl is food motivated!

Poppi will be available for adoption on, or after, December 19th, 2025

If you are interested in Poppi and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Poppi’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Poppi will be fostered in RI
