Poodle Maurice - Fostered in SE Nebraska Poodle Shawnee Mission, KS

Maurice and Antoine are cute little poodle-bugs!

First, the sad part. These two are beagle-nots who have found themselves in Their owner had been unable to adequately care for them. They needed to be shaved while under anesthesia, nail trims and extensive dentals. Maurice had 28 teeth pulled, his brother 13. A dog has only 42. The vet advised a follow up visit in a year or less and expected that other teeth may fail by then. All of this must have been terribly painful.

Now, the good news Maurice and Antoine Joe are feeling so much better. They are in a foster home with an older lady who has two small dogs of her own, and all get along well. She thinks that they may be separated, but it would be nice if they could stay together. An assessment of that will follow around August 19. We have been waiting until they feel better before testing their time apart.

Maurice is reportedly about 5 years old. He is kind of white in color but when his fur grows in, he is likely to be more apricot than white.

He weighs 10 pounds. Even at 10 pounds, he is a bit tubby, which can be seen quite well while he is shaved down. When he is covered with fluffy fur, he will be quite adorable.

Maurice loves a lap and is fearless in jostling for the best spot. He fears stairs. He currently feels a few at a time are fine. He can go up and down porch stairs but not stairs to another floor.

Maurice is poorly potty trained, which is being worked on. He will use a dog door to come in, but for some reason hasn't got the hang of going out! He is OK with a crate. He walks acceptably with a leash, although he is a lazy lout who prefers to be carried like a well, like the little bitty dog that he is.

He gets along with other dogs. He prances and barks loudly at whoever comes in the house. It is a game for him to announce guests like that.

He is cute and adorable but he needs the right owner. He needs someone who will be careful with feeding him his teeth are probably so bad because of a diet wholly of soft dog food, or people food. He needs a diet of kibble as much as he can tolerate.

He also needs someone who is willing to get him groomed regularly, Anyone who has had a poodle will understand this, with the investment in time getting him to and from a groomer, and the expense. Anyone who is just thinking about cuteness should be aware that this is a significant responsibility for a poodle.
