Poodle Antoine - Fostered in SE Nebraska Poodle Shawnee Mission, KS

Antoine and Maurice are cute little poodle-bugs! Antoine Joe, as his foster calls him, is a shaved down pitiful looking little fellow who will regain his looks once his fur grows back.

First, the sad part. Antoine Joe and his brother are beagle-nots who have found themselves in a beagle rescue by chance as their mom came to the end of her days in hospice. Their owner had been unable to adequately care for them. They needed to be shaved while under anesthesia, nail trims and extensive dentals. Antoine had 13 of his 42 teeth pulled. All of this was painful.

Now, the good news. Antoine Joe and Maurice are feeling so much better. They are in a foster home with an older lady who has two small dogs of her own, and all get along well. She thinks that they may be separated, but it would be nice if they could stay together. An assessment of that will follow around August 19. We have been waiting until they feel better before testing their time apart.

Antoine is reportedly about 5 years old. He is white. He weighs all of 8 pounds. He is an animated fellow who likes to prance around and observe people and things. When things quiet down, he will jump up and sit by his foster, but he otherwise enjoys being on the move. He seems to be developing an interest in stuffies.

He is poorly potty trained, which is being worked on. He will use a dog door to come in, but for some reason hasn't got the hang of going out! He is OK with a crate. He walks acceptably with a leash.

He gets along with other dogs. He prances and barks loudly at whoever comes in the house. It is a game for him to announce guests like that.

He is cute and adorable, but he needs the right owner. He needs someone who will be careful with feeding him his teeth are probably so bad because of a diet wholly of soft dog food, or people food. He needs a diet of kibble as much as he can tolerate.

He also needs someone who is willing to get him groomed regularly. Anyone who has had a poodle will understand this, with the investment in time getting him to and from a groomer, and the expense. Anyone who is just thinking about cuteness should be aware that this is a significant responsibility for a poodle.
