Meet Pirate

Pirate is patiently awaiting the day his forever home comes along. He has practically grown up in the rescue, watching other puppies come and go, while he keeps getting passed over. A German Shepherd Aussie mix, Pirate didn't look like your typical German Shepherd Puppy, at a year old, he still doesn't look like your typical German Shepherd. No matter how hard he tries, his ears will never stand up. They just aren't meant to. He hopes that isn't what makes people choose another. He isn't as big as your typical German Shepherd. He hopes you don't think he's too small.

While he has his Aussie characteristics, Pirate can't hide the German Shepherd in himself, the side of him that is so loyal to his person. Wherever his foster mom is, that is where Pirate wants to be. He wants to please.

Pirate also likes other people. He hasn't met even one so far that he didn't like. He loves people who can play with them. He loves to have them throw the ball for him to run and tell them where it landed so that they can come and find it. Retrieval is something he hasn't mastered, or maybe he knows we need just as much exercise as he does. After all, he wants to keep his person happy and healthy so they can take him for nice walks and run with him in the yard, and work with him on his training. While he is still working on his training and hasn't mastered all of his basic commands, he is very treat motivated and knows that he will learn fast when he meets his forever family.

Pirate has been with us since he was a puppy and has always lived with foster dogs. He has always had the older dogs to guide him. While we think he may do okay in a family as an only dog if they are active enough and he is not alone during the day, he would do best in a home with an older dog who can continue to mentor him, one that he respects.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $400. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.

Our adoption process begins with completing an application on-line. A phone screening will soon follow, and lastly a home visit will be conducted by our volunteers.
