CONTACT INFORMATION IS:
Chili Childress at chili.currie@gmail.com is a shelter volunteer with Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg, VA. She says: I am an advocate for the dogs of this facility and my current goal is to find rescue placement for the dogs who are the shelter's longest residents. I am currently networking a 3-year old pit bull named Pirate.

This dog been at the shelter for over a year. His intake date is 12/29/16, the day he was found as a stray. He is coming up on 13 months behind bars. He has been passed over dozens of times and overlooked. He is neutered, heartworm negative, and current on all vaccines. Pirate is an exuberant boy with an infectious smile. When I visited him on Wednesday, he just wagged his tail and begged me to play with him. His favorite thing in the world is tennis balls and he will gleefully carry one in his mouth for hours. He lives for ear rubs, back scratches and any other form of human affection.

Pirate is not fond of cats. Although he was dog reactive when he first arrived at the shelter, he has made great progress. Now, he ignores other dogs while out for a walk. With an experienced adopter, the shelter feels that he may be able to live with another dog. However, the adopter must be able to keep them separated until proper introductions and steady socialization can be achieved. Additionally, we believe that the stress of the shelter environment is undoubtedly impacting his behavior around other dogs. Once he leaves the shelter permanently, we feel that he will test more positively, as we have seen with other dogs.

He is a goofy boy who just needs a chance.
