Meet Picasso

Meet Picasso, the epitome of the reason we rescue. Kicked and yelled at by his owners, Picasso’s neighbors recognized the need to get him into a better life and took the steps necessary to help him get to SCCR.

This sweet boy is a 40-pound Catahoula Leopard mix and is absolutely beautiful. We estimate he is about six months old and very well behaved for his puppy age. He is doing well with his house training, but still learning so it is important to keep Picasso on a regular schedule for going outside.

Picasso doesn’t chew or even pick up things that don’t belong to him. His desire to chew can be met with durable treats such as sturdy bully sticks. He loves toys of all kinds and plays with them all throughout the day. He can be a bit mouthy when excited but is easily redirected to a toy. Picasso is treat-motivated and eager to please so does very well with training.

Likely caged frequently by his former owners, Picasso expresses distress by barking when left alone in a room or left alone crated so he’s probably not a good fit for an apartment or townhome. We are seeing improvement and with continued practice expect Picasso will learn to trust that his family will always come back for him. Picasso’s new family will need to be patient with him and continue this learning process.

Picasso enjoys going for walks and does very well on a leash with only occasional pulling. He enjoys playing with other dogs and shares his toys nicely. He also enjoys a game of fetch with his family. He has not lived with a cat but shows a lot of interest in squirrels and other critters, so may not be an ideal fit for a home with a cat.

When playtime is done Picasso enjoys napping on a soft cushion or snuggling on the couch with his humans. His foster family describes him as goofy, cuddly, playful, and active but with very manageable puppy energy.
Can you show Picasso that his past is behind him and he has nothing but love and happiness in his future?
