Meet Phoenix

Phoenix (5YO) is one of six dogs that came to us from North Dakota. All of the dogs were kept outside with minimal shelter and care standards. He has been with his foster family for some time now and is settling into an inside environment nicely.

The Perfect Home for Phoenix...

Phoenix's home will require physical barrier fence (observations of him tell us that he just feels more confident with the visual barrier that a fence as there is no question as to boundaries). An invisible, or otherwise electric fence system, is NOT acceptable. He has had some mistreatment in the past and adopters should be aware that he will need a non-confrontational home that allows him to move at his own pace. A calm home with a steady routine is preferred. He does have experience being left home alone for up to 8 hours while crated (54") or confined to an indoor kennel (5'x5'). He is not a dog that will enjoy taking day trips - he prefers to stay home. We are seeking a home for him without children - he startles easily and his confidence levels in situations he is unfamiliar with still vary greatly. He does well with other dogs (including some interactive play with other dogs of similar age), and seems to mostly ignore the cats in his foster home. He will require that his adopters have a confident adult dog, aged 2+, already established in the home (preferably female). There should not be any puppies in the home.

Additionally, while Phoenix is mostly house-trained he is a marker and has a history of marking furniture and siding. He is generally very closely watched when free-roaming inside (a belly band may also be used but he has not yet been introduced to them).

Applicants for Phoenix will be required to be within distance of an in-person home visit, which is generally within 2 hours of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Adoption fees vary depending on the dog, but range from $300-$600.
