Phineas is a beautiful male shih tzu/poodle mix that was born in late 2011. We have his complete records dating back to his purchase from a local pet seller. Like many irresponsibly bred dogs, Phineas has a chronic health condition, but it is well managed. This beautiful dog came to us in 2016 as one big flaky, scabby, bald dog. After much testing it was determined that Phinny was suffering from an autoimmune disorder and that with proper care, his condition could be managed. We worked with both our vet and a veterinary dermatologist and Phinny's condition has been completely managed now for over two years. We believe it is time for this precious angel to have an opportunity to be a part of a loving home!

The condition Phineas was diagnosed with is pemphigus foliaceous. Treatment consists of bi-weekly bathing, keeping him free of fleas and ticks, and giving him two medications every other day. The cost of medication is less than $20 per month. He is in full remission and should stay there. He requires no special diet and we hope he will lose weight in a home that can better manage his diet and food intake. Phinny has been neutered, microchipped, given all vaccines and he is on both heart worm and flea/tick prevention. He loves people and other dogs and is housebroken.

CARE Rescue is foster-base rescue located in Richmond, VA. We do not have a facility for you to come to meet animals at. You must visit our weekly adoption stand (calendar on our website) to meet the adoptable dogs. Out of area adoptions can only be facilitated when we are able to find a volunteer to do a home visit for us and when the potential adopter already has a veterinary reference.
