Meet Periwinkle

Periwinnkle, now known as Piggy, is back at GDU, due to no fault of her own. This 2 year old Catahoula mix is a very energetic girl, who loves to run around and have fun! She’s an excellent swimmer and jumps right in when ever she’s given the chance. She’s down for any adventure, as long as she gets to be by your side. She likes to walk on trails or walk in a neighborhood, she’s not picky, at all. She doesn’t love a car ride, but she never turns down a good time with her favorite people. She likes toys and anything she can really chew on are her favorite.

Piggy can be very talkative when she’s playing or when she wants to get your attention. When she’s ready to play, she’ll let you know! Her bark can sound a little different from most, but that’s just because she’s extra special. She can feel vibrations around her and will sometimes bark out of the blue if they startle her. She loves food and treats (who doesn’t!), but will only do tricks for treats! She can have a hard time relaxing but she doesn’t mind taking an afternoon nap on the couch or in her crate.

Piggy loves to play with other dogs, but she could care less about them if she’s doing her own thing. She can be a little mischievous and likes to dig, but if you keep her busy with adventures, that won’t be a problem! She doesn’t mind kids or small dogs and she’s friendly to new people. I’m not sure how she’d be with cats or farm animals but she has been introduced to chickens and she was fine with them! Piggy needs a little more attention then most dogs, not just because she’s deaf, but since she can be such a busy-body and very active!

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state. However, if the applicant is approved, they must be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption donation of 300.00. This is a minimum donation and does not cover all expenses, as we are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum donation includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. This minimum donation does not even begin to cover the actual expenses each animal has while in rescue, but does go directly towards vet care for our rescue animals. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
