Meet Pepper Jack
Meet Pepper Jack aka Pep! Pep is best described as sweet, loving and snugly. His foster mum says his most endearing quality is his underbite and cute curled lips. He has the biggest brown eyes you will ever see and he sure knows how to use them to get your attention! He is a very loving boy and bonds deeply with his trusted humans. He will always find a way to be curled up into your side.
Pep gets occasional spurts of playful silliness where he likes to play with his canine foster siblings, but after he is done, he loves to nap on the couch and has the cutest snore. His favorite things to do include gently playing with his cat foster siblings, chasing a ball and his toys and watching Netflix with his people. He doesn't ask for much other than your love and would happily spend the whole day snuggled up on the couch if you'd let him!
Pep is a sensitive boy and with new people, he is initially very reserved, but curious. He will require a family that will support his need for proper introductions and give him the time and space he needs to warm up. When meeting someone new, especially men, Pep will initially keep his distance and may even let out a bark depending on the person or environment. If allowed to do so at his own pace though, he will eventually go in for a sniff to say hello.
Pepper Jack's ideal family will have:
- Another well-adjusted dog to show him the ropes
- Experience with larger dogs (he may pull when on walks)
- Patience as he adjusts to his new home and learns to trust, as well as a willingness to continue to build his confidence through slow and gentle exposure to new people and situations.
- A fenced yard in a quiet neighbourhood. Having lived on a farm his whole life, big city living is not for this boy!
- No children preferably
- Ability to meet his exercise needs (he is not a dog park boy)
- Have another well-adjusted dog pal for him to help show him the ropes.
Pepper Jack is medium energy and loves supervised play outside in the backyard with his foster siblings. He would like a family willing to ensure he gets the walks and playtime he needs and one that will continue to work on his leash skills and confidence outside. He walks well for the most part but will pull if spooked by loud noises like garbage trucks or crowds. He is strong boy and will require a confident handler. He is considered a high flight risk and his new family should have an understanding of lost dog prevention.
Pep would love a family that is home more often than not or one that is willing to take him to dog day care during the day if they work. He likes to be with his humans and has several canine and cat foster siblings at home so he is not used to being alone. When he is alone he can be vocal before settling and so apartment living would not be ideal. Pepper Jack would likely feel better in a dog safe room versus a crate. He thrives on calm routine and so his family should practice calm, relaxed energy when coming and going.
Pepper Jack is a smart and obedient boy. He knows his name, sit, no, go to your house (crate), go to your bed, come, and he will sit and wait to be released before eating his meal. He is also learning threshold training so he does not try to run out of open doors. Pepper Jack sleeps quietly though the night in his crate with a big squishy bed, in bed next to his foster mom or on the couch with his brother Jalapeno.
