Meet Penny Sue

If anyone ever needed HART, it’s definitely Penny Sue! Like so many dogs, Penny Sue ended up in high intake, rural shelter as a senior dog and unfortunately has been passed around until she landed in her foster home. Those days are definitely behind her and now Penny Sue is looking for that special adopter to live her final days out.

While at a vet visit for a routine heartworm test it was discovered that Penny Sue had a fever and HART spared not expense with making sure we figured out what was exactly wrong. Penny Sue does have a kidney stone that has caused her kidney to appear darker in color and smaller in size. The chemical composition of the kidney stone is not one that will dissolve.

Right now Penny Sue is feeling much better and has normal activity like any other dog. It was advised though due to Penny’s age this would need to be an issue that is watched and any side effects would need to be treated. The vet does believe that at some point the stone could infect the kidney.

That leaves Penny Sue as what we call unknown. This gal could have five more years in her, however she could also have a lot less time. Like any senior dog, Penny Sue will come with her possible health challenges. Penny will have a final goodbye probably sooner than most. She is a dog that you will bring you so much happiness in the end, that her time will seem endless!

Penny Sue is about 11 years old and most likely a chihuahua, jack Russell mix. She is a smaller girl at about ten pounds. She does well with her crate training and her potty training. Penny is fostered with several other dogs but she does get a little territorial over her foster mom when some of the pups come over. We call that her Penny-isms and there really isn’t much to it.

Penny loves to be with her foster mom chilling out in the couch. She will snuggle with you burrowing herself into the covers. She loves to go for leisurely walks and rides in the car. Penny loved visiting her foster mom’s mother apartment at a local retirement center and explore all around. Penny has a huge amount of love to give for whatever time she has left.

Penny will be able to continue to spend her time in her foster mom’s home. There will be no change to that so rest assured this gal’s days of being bounced around are over.
However, we would love Penny Sue to find a forever home that will accept this gal for who she is and for her situation. If you would love to help be a part of this gals rescue story, apply to adopt Penny Sue at https://www.rescueahart.org/

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks.
