Penny Lane: Adopted! Wirehaired Terrier Mix Kansas City, KS

8/22/2015: Penny Lane is an adorable Wirehaired Terrier mix. She’s very unique looking and couldn’t be any cuter! She is a year old and weighs 51 lbs. She has a short and very stocky body. We were very curious as to her breed so did a DNA test on her. The results came back that she's 25% Sealyham Terrier; 25% Staffordshire Terrier; 50% mixed breed with not enough breed signals to identify any particular breed. So she's pretty much a Wirehair Heinz 57!

Penny is a very sweet girl. She loves to play with squeaky toys and she loves to go for walks. She’s strong and pulled on her leash when she first arrived. We've worked with her and she's doing much better on a leash now and not very difficult to walk at all. She's an active girl and would love a fairly active person. After her walks, she loves to stretch out with her belly on the cool tile and her legs behind her. She loves getting attention and be petted. Penny sits pretty for treats and is food motivated and very trainable.

She was a little shy when we first met her but after a few weeks she settled in nicely and she's now very friendly and loves people. She’s a little timid around kids, so she wouldn’t be a good match for a home with small kids.

Penny is pretty choosy about her doggie friends. She would probably do best as an only dog. But if you have a dog we’d ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Penny to see if they get along. She does fine walking on a leash near other dogs.

Penny can jump a fence so would need to be supervised when in a fenced area. She can be barky…. she is a terrier!… so she's probably not be a good choice for apartment living.

She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. We transferred her to our shelter from KCK Animal Control. She's a lot of fun!

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
