Meet Peggy the Low Rider

Please fill out the application now if you are interested as we are still closed to the public and doing meet & greets and adoptions by appointment only.

Peggy is a Low Riding American Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix girl that was born in April 2017 and weighs a compact 35 pounds. Her legs only hold her less than 8 inches from the ground...it's just adorable:) She is very affectionate, has a sweet personality, and quirky good looks!

Peggy is so much fun! She is always happy to meet new people and go on adventures. Peggy gets so excited when she meets new dogs and loves to just run around the yard as much as her little legs can carry her. She also gets fairly excited about kitties and may not be the best around them in a home. It is likely she would chase a cat if they were to run away from her, and she does get intimidated by them if they are outwardly aggressive towards her.

We’re not sure what her life was like before coming to our facility, but we do know that she must have spent a considerable amount of time outside and is now positive for Heartworm Disease. She is currently undergoing treatment and must be on crate rest/movement restriction until her retest on July 1st. For now, Peggy cannot play heavily with other dogs and cannot spend time outside to limit the amount of exercise and stress her heart is under, but that has not stopped her from becoming the biggest, laziest princess in our kennel. She is able to go on brief leash walks to go potty and is okay hanging out in the living room, so long as she does not get too worked up.

Once her treatment is complete, and she can go back to a relatively normal canine lifestyle. Peggy would be great for dog parks, short/easy walks, camping, or just about anything else where she can be involved. Peggy loves riding in the car and is not one to try and take over the steering wheel for you. Because of her type of breed and shape, we do expect Peggy to have issues with her legs as she ages. At this time, she does have some restrictive issues with her back right leg which will need to be managed throughout the rest of her life.

Peggy is available for pre-adoption or can go into foster care with a family that intends to adopt her, but Pet Placement Center will pay for all of her medicine and treatments until she is Heartworm free. Going into a home environment is the best thing for her during her treatment because her physical activity should be limited at that time. Plus, it is a great way for her to bond with a new family and Pet Placement Center will help you every step of the way. We list her as "special needs" right now, but once she is done with treatment, she will be cured!

We're open Wednesday - Sunday 12 - 5 p.m but are doing meet & greets and adoptions by appointment only.

The adoption fee is $90 which includes a free veterinary exam within 2 weeks of adoption at local participating vets, up to date vaccinations, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, dewormer, flea preventative, microchip, & spay or neuter.
