Meet Pearl. Estimated to be around two years old in February 2019, this 24-lb beauty looks like she has some American Eskimo in her. Her personality is very much like a Border Collie, however. Pearl's previous home of 6 months consisted of an elderly couple and another female dog. The two dogs (which the owner suspected may have been mother/daughter) got along well when left alone together. Unfortunately, when the couple was around and lap time was involved, the two dogs became jealous and it eventually led to aggression. The couple dearly loved both dogs but felt it in their and the dogs' best interest to let one of them go. They made the painful decision that Pearl, being the younger dog and not quite as possessive, would be the easier dog to re-home. To help us find Pearl the most appropriate adopter, the couple shared with us that Pearl is 'mostly housebroken but needs some work;' loves car rides but wants to sit on your lap; hasn't been around children or cats; doesn't like being alone and will dig out of a yard if left unattended; is still in the chewing phase (partially from separation anxiety) and will chew electrical wires, woodwork, dog beds, stuffed toys, etc. Although Pearl wasn't crated by her previous owners, we think crating her will prevent her from getting into trouble so her adopters should have prior experience in crate-training anxious dogs. Pearl was terrified of the leash when her previous owners first got her but she is now comfortable and well-mannered during leash walks. Although she still has some 'ruff' edges that need a little 'pawlishing,' we have no doubt that Pearl has what it takes to be an excellent canine companion. She is an intelligent dog that bonds tightly with her person. It was obvious how much she loved and respected her previous owner and how much she wanted to please him. We think she'll be the same way in her new home. All she needs is an adopter who will be patient with her and will commit to being there for her. To meet Pearl, just stop by our shelter. She's spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go! /// PEARL IS SPONSORED THRU JANUARY 2020 BY OUR FRIENDS AT OLDFATHER LAW FIRM.
