Meet Peanut

Meet Peanut!

Peanut is a playful and energetic young adult Pembroke Corgi mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Originally rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Oklahoma, he made his way to Oregon in search of his perfect forever home.

This little guy is full of enthusiasm and loves spending time with his people. He enjoys playing fetch, tug, and rolling around in the grass, and he's always up for an adventure. Peanut is great on walks and enjoys meeting new people and dogs. He's also highly intelligent and a quick learner, especially when there are treats involved!

Peanut would thrive in an adult-only home where he can be the center of attention. He prefers being the only dog but could do well with a well-matched canine companion. Due to his strong interest in cats, a cat-free home is best. He loves an active lifestyle-walks, hikes, and outdoor playtime-but he also enjoys relaxing with his favorite humans. Peanut does best when his people are around most of the day, as he doesn't like being left alone for long.

His fun-loving and affectionate personality is still unfolding, but one thing is clear-Peanut is a wonderful companion who will bring endless joy to the right home!

Peanut's important stats to note:

Age: Approx. 3 years

Weight: 31 lbs

Breed: Corgi Mix

The Good Stuff:

Peanut is a smart, active, and loving little guy who forms strong bonds with his person. He's a great hiking buddy, loves the water, and enjoys playing fetch and tug-of-war. He's made great progress in learning commands like "sit," "come," and "leave it," and he absolutely loves agility activities. Peanut is also a friendly dog who gets along well with most other dogs, especially at the dog park. He's an active, curious, and loyal companion who thrives on routine and regular exercise.
What He Needs:

Peanut needs an experienced foster or adopter who understands that some dogs just have a little extra personality. He thrives with structure, clear boundaries, and positive reinforcement. He would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard, as he's a bit of an escape artist and has a strong prey drive.

Challenges to Work On:

Separation Anxiety: Peanut struggles with being left alone and will need a patient foster to help him gain confidence when alone.

Leash Reactivity: While he's a good walker, Peanut can become overstimulated by passing cars and loud noises, so he's best walked in quieter areas.

Impulse Control: Peanut is smart and energetic, which means he can get overexcited. He's learning to calm down and settle, but it's a work in progress.

The Ideal Foster/adopter:

Peanut would do best in a calm, structured home without young children, as he can be a bit much when he's excited. Someone who loves training and wants a project dog to work with would be a great fit for this clever boy. He'll need a strong, secure fence and a foster willing to keep working on his training.

Peanut's Perfect Day:

A morning walk, a game of fetch, some agility work, and then a cozy nap in his favorite spot. He loves water, so a kiddie pool or trips to the lake would make his day.

Will you be his hero?

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the "OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.

Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
