Meet Peanut

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE: To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in.

Here is the Dog Application that you can copy and paste into a browser: https://fs17.formsite.com/waverlypetrescue/form028182466/index.html

Peanut was adopted from a rescue near Des Moines, Iowa, back in 2020. He does not do well with children and the adopters now have a grandchild so wanted to give Peanut back to that rescue. But the rescue has closed. They looked for no-kill rescues or shelters in their area of Norwalk, Iowa, but no one had any openings. They reached out to Waverly Pet Rescue and one of our foster homes agreed to foster Peanut. So Peanut is a Waverly Pet Rescue dog now and living in a foster home. He is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Peanut was born around August 2019 so is now about 5-1/2 years old as of January 2025. He weighs around 18 pounds. He was dearly loved in his home and had excellent care. The first day in his foster home was a hard day for Peanut. He was confused and not sure what happened to his family. Now after several weeks, he is well and starting to settle into his foster home.

Peanut is a sweet little guy. He loves to cuddle on next to you on the couch or chair, but not on your lap. He likes to give kisses and get belly rubbins. He's a good eater and does a little dance to tell you when he needs to go potty. He walks very well on a leash and loves to go on car rides. We are in the process of crate training him and he is doing well, however, I do not feel he requires one. We have left him out during the day and at night without any issues with behavior or potty accidents.

Peanut gets along great with our other dogs and will play with them. He will growl at them when he does not want to play.

Peanut does have a few things a new home needs to know about. He is quite skittish and gets spooked easily. The sound of our cell phones vibrating on the table will send him away from you. After the previous owner left, he was scared and confused so he was a snappy and growled at us. We left him alone to adjust to our activity and after several hours, he warmed up to us. He is great with our teenage granddaughter and her friends that come to the house, but I would not recommend him to be around small children because he spooks so easily. Just carrying items in your hand will scare him. He is also a bit of a finicky eater.

Peanut is so sweet and loves attention. He is very smart. He enjoys running around in a fenced in yard. He has never been allowed to roam. He is always in the yard or on a leash. We will require a fenced in yard to keep him safe and because that is what he is used to.

He must have a home with no children or children who come and visit. Or potential for grandchildren in the future. We want his next home to be forever.

Will someone please adopt Peanut and give him a forever home? $175.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
