Meet Payaso

Hey world, I'm Payaso! I'm a 4-year-old active dude looking for a great home here in MN.

I am always excited to see my humans - all 29-pounds of me wiggles because I am just so happy when I get to hang out with them. Because I love my humans so much, I am territorial of them when other humans come around and it takes me a long time to feel comfortable with new people. Specifically, I don't like it when people I don't know very well touch me. I also do not like it when people or other animals try to take things that I have, like toys or food. My foster family is working really hard to help me with this. I have learned how to wear a muzzle when I am meeting new people to help us all feel comfortable and safe. But, in my forever home, I will probably be my best with just one human who has experience and confidence working with dogs that have resource guarding and touch sensitivity issues.

Now, onto my favorites! I LOVE going on daily walks and runs around my neighborhood. I also like playtime, but I mean hey, who doesn't? Fetch and tug-of-war are on my top five favorite things to do which is why I am territorial with my toys. They are just so awesome! My fosters are helping me learn that it is okay to share, but because I am still working on this, I shouldn't be in a home with children.

Going in the crate? It isn't my favorite, but I'll do it! Especially if it is a bigger crate with lots of comfy blankets. Because comfy pillows and blankets ARE THE BEST (and sometimes I don't like sharing those either)! Sometimes my foster parents let me curl up on a heated pad and that is a great place to be. I don't have much fur and the winters in MN get very cold! But even when it is cold, I know I have to go outside to go potty. I am good at letting my humans know when I need to.

In my foster home, I have been living with a senior Lab. Sometimes, I don't know how to play with other dogs without getting too excited. My foster brother is very calm, and so he is a good housemate for me. I would do best living in a home with a relaxed dog or no other dogs at all. Have I mentioned that I don't like sharing?

Meeting other dogs is very stressful for me and I do best when I have a slow, controlled introduction with new dogs. When I see new dogs, I get VERY excited and react very loudly. I am learning how to encounter dogs and people on walks more respectfully. Because I want to protect my home, I also bark when I see other dogs and humans outside my window. I am uncertain about intruders into my space!

Like many dogs, I find the vet very stressful. But when my foster parents take me there, I need to be sedated in order to have people help me feel better. Even things like getting my nails clipped or getting shots is very scary! I take anxiety medication to help me calm my nerves, but unfortunately, it only does so much.

So, even though I have a handful of quirks and things kinda stress me out, I have an over-abundance of LOVE towards my human! ...and my toys, food and blankets so my future human should plan to patiently and consistently work with me to help and remind me that other humans are just as great as my human and that I can share my toys. I am super affectionate and am looking for a patient, loving and experienced home to help me live my best life!
