Meet Patches

Meet Patches! Patches is an adorable Mexican Street Dog boy who's approximately 3 months old and around 7-10 pounds. He's expected to grow to be somewhere in the medium-size range once fully grown, but we don't know for sure and cannot guarantee where he'll end up. This is one really adorable litter of pups. Younger pups like Patches can really benefit from a person or family whose home most of the time and can tend to all of his puppy needs as he grows and matures. Early training and socialization can be key in a young pup's development. Patches and his siblings were rescued on the island of Isla Mujeres in Mexico outside of Cancun. He is now being fostered by a family in Oregon and ready to join you on your upcoming adventures, so don't miss your chance to bring this sweet boy home. Now that he's settling in with a foster family, stay tuned for more updates as we learn more. Apply today and don't miss your chance to bring this sweet little boy home with you. Will you be his hero?

Update from his foster family:

"Patches is an absolute dream to foster! He is the sweetest and most chill puppy we've ever met. He makes us laugh when he gets into silly puppy mode, and he loves his squeaky toys and chew toys and can entertain himself for long periods of time. He was a little timid at first but he certainly has come out of his shell since he's been with us. He loves to play with our large dog and genuinely enjoys all dogs and people that he meets. He is good about sharing his toys and his space with our dog.

Patches is already learning potty training, he is making great progress and either goes outside or on a potty pad. I think he'll be ready to start learning commands soon since he is very food motivated which tends to help with training. He hasn't shown signs of food aggression.

He truly is a cute puppy. Patches loves his play time but one of his favorite things is to cuddle. He likes his cute little cheeks rubbed and never turns down a good ear rub either. Patches falls asleep in my lap and seems to be completely at ease. He has bonded with me quickly and I think he will also have no problem bonding quickly with his new family when he gets adopted. It seems he will settle into his new home quickly."

steps to adopting

Adoption applications will be kept on file for 1 year and can be applied towards multiple adoptions within that time frame.

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application (Click on the orange "Start the Application Process" button above). Once submitted, the application may take a few days to be approved. Once approved it is good for multiple adoptions and saved for future use. The application will expire 1 year from when it was submitted.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $550. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs between $500-$700 for vetting, transport, sterilization and more. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are vetted before they fly, given standard vaccines and rabies, dewormed, given flea/tick treatments and tested for heartworm. Most dogs are sterilized before they fly, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.

Upon arrival all dogs are seen for a wellness exam and parasite screening. Any parasite treatment necessary is at our expense.

Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
