Meet Papi

Dog Name: Papi

Breed: mixed small breed (chuhuahua traits are obvious)

Sex: male (neutered)

Age: probably around 3 years old

Weight: 13 lbs.

Medical Needs: None

Housebroken: Working on it. He has come a long way. He now seems to understand that he should go outside but he still doesn't indicate the need to go. He is GREAT on a schedule, but if he gets exra food or water that you didn't know about, he may have an accident before his next scheduled potty break. He's good about going out and quickly taking care of his business.

Crate trained: Hates a crate with the fire of a thousand hells. The crate is a necessity for us when we are all gone during the day, but he never steps hollering. We've tried light/dark, covering, music, TV, other dogs nearby, special blankets, toys, chewing treats, etc.

Good in the car: Yes- still nervous, but willing to do anything that lets him stay with his human.

Good on a leash: Very! Whe he is off-leash, he still stays within leash length becuse he doesn't like to be more than a foot away from you anway.

Energy level: Low, with short bursts of medium. He's a snuggler, not a player. He is alwasy up for a walk with you.

Need a fenced in yard: No

Dog Friendly: Likes other dogs, but will not play with them. He does enjoy getting into the garbage with them, though. :)

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Defiitely not necessary.

Cat Friendly? Yes. Papi has zero interest in cats, so everyone is happy. :) Also fine with rabbits, ducks, chickens and various small birds and animals, but he will eat their food when they're not looking.

Kid Friendly: Depends. He is fine with our 3 girls who are very dog-savvy, but he gets nervous aroud kids who are loud or want to get too close; too fast. He has never tried to bite, but he will growl. His favorite humans are adults who recognize when he is overwhelmed or needs quiet.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Teens or kids old enough to respect that he is a nervous little dude in a big world. He does warm up to all ages if they let him come to them first. He loves attention and affection once he's comfortable.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Papi is just the sweetest, most little co-dependent bundle of fur in the world. He is curious about the world, but also terrified, so he appreciates time and slow introductons to new animals and people (but ultimately is fine with them). Papi takes showers instead of baths. He is scared of running or standing water but loves being held so he will let you hold him in your arms to bathe in the shower with very little resistance. He believes that a dog and their human should never be more than 2 feet apart, so he will cry all night if you crate him.

Papi is great at taking pills and getting his nails clipped. He wants to be in your lap at all times, and expects to go everywhere you go-including the bathroom, LOL. He is very food-driven, but exhibits no resource guarding or food aggression. He ignores all of our small animals, including rabbits, ducks, chickens, and various neighborhood pets and wild animals. He really only has eyes for his humans. Papi was running the streets until picked up by animal control. He was obviously used to having to find food on his own, so he is very keen on investigating trashcans and will surf your countertop or kitchen table if food is left there (and a chair is left close enough to use for the boost). If he is NOT right by your side, he is looking for food.

He has come so far, from a dog who had shut down and given up, to a happy little guy who loves his humans - and their armchair. He will make the absolute best friend for someone who appreciates a loyal dog who just wants to be loved.
