Meet Padme
Meet Padme! She is a 3 year old, 50 pound husky mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, heart worm negative, and microchipped!
Padme came to us after she suffered an accident that broke her back, which left her partially paralyzed. She does need daily pain medication, has a specific diet/eating routine, and uses a doggy wheelchair.
Padme is a medium energy pet. She is great with other dogs and will be quick to correct them if they jump on her. She is good with cats and does not bother them. She does not currently live with children. She could do well with children if allowed time to adjust and set boundaries. She does great with everyone she meets in public. She often sees children and adults outside of her household when going for walks at the park or participating in group dog walks with fluffy friends.
Padme is incontinent and does require bladder expression, but with a strict eating schedule, her potty times are predictable and manageable. She will potty after her morning and evening meals and often need to potty again mid-day. Depending on water intake, she may need to urinate more often. She should be expressed a minimum of 3 times a day. She can wear a diaper in case of accidents though. She has a little stub tail so she can wear a human diaper or doggy diaper. Padme is kennel trained and does well sleeping in a kennel overnight. While Padme cannot perform any of the usual tricks, she does get very excited for treats and will spin herself around in excitement. She could probably be trained to speak on command with the right motivation!
Padme has no idea that her legs do not work. She runs through life with two legs knowing no difference and we aren’t going to tell her she’s not normal. She loves playing with her foster siblings. She will wrestle and play with others just fine. She is a husky, so she will be vocal when playing. She will also voice her displeasure. She knows exactly when meal times are and you can’t be late. She will also let you know when she’s done with her wheelchair. Other than normal husky chatter, she’s a great dog and keeps to herself while her foster mom works. She would do best with toys or some other boredom buster to get her through the day.
We encourage you to do a little research to learn more about wheelchair pups. We think they will surprise you!
