Meet P-Nut

P-Nut ACCT-A-218375 is a 2-year-old male dog who came in as a stray on 4/22. Poor P-Nut has been terrified in this kennel environment but doing his best to be brave. He is open to handling with people but definitely takes some time to warm up. What he hasn't enjoyed too much is going back into his kennel, and really hopes to be safe in a home very soon.

Behavior Notes:

Per Volunteer 5/1/25: Peanut was sitting in the back of his kennel when I approached. I dropped a few hot dog pieces in, and he still didn't move. I opened the kennel door and leashed him easily without any issues. Outside he had a wagging tail with me, but didn't seem to seek out affection too much. I thought he was interested in the treats, but he never actually ate them. Outside, he really just sat and observed the leaves blowing by. He walks really well on leash. Upon returning, he got very tense and froze. I could tell you was about to snap so I tried to gently wriggle the leash off him. As I was doing so he started growling and as soon as I close the kennel door he started snarling and wondering for me. Really doesn't like going back in-make sure you use the clip method for returning!

On 4/22/25 staff noted: "Dog was attacked by other dogs. Quiet, alert, responsive, scared, sending conflicting signals allows pets but starts growling, easily distracted with food. Scrape on right nostril. Unable to do full oral exam, tartar along gum line on canines, slight staining. Puncture wound on front left leg, scrapes on head. Limping front left leg. Stressed, tense."

On 4/23 volunteer noted: "Observed staff putting food in the kennel, he began to snarl and lunged at them, he continued doing so as they tried to close the door."

On 4/22 exam Doctor noted: "Small stray dog, apparently attacked by other stray dogs today. Limited oral exam only given temperament, mild calculus and gingivitis noted on quick visual. Three fresh puncture wounds with surrounding edema on, and just proximal to, the left carpus. Single puncture wound overlying the right carpus. Weight bearing lame on the left forelimb.
