Meet Oskar
Serendipity is looking for a very special adopter for a very special dog!
Oskar is a male German Shepherd who is estimated to be 6 years old. Oskar and a traveling companion were picked up by animal control in late June. At the time he was dehydrated, underweight, had ear infections and had hair loss due to a severe flea infestation. During his stay at the shelter Oskar was a favorite and was allowed to free range with other like-minded dogs.
Oskar got his freedom ride from Kentucky to Missouri on Monday, August 7th. He rode like a champ for the entire ride. He moved into a foster home where he is living with 4 resident GSDs.
Oskar is a very affectionate dog who adores to be petted. He is friendly to everyone he meets. Oskar knows basic commands such as sit, down and shake. He is food motivated and takes treats nicely. It is apparent that at some point Oskar had a home where he was loved.
Oskar is house trained and rides quietly in the back of the car. When his foster people leave the house he is fine when left in a crate. The shelter told Serendipity representatives that he is good with children.
Oskar is living with 2 dog-savvy cats. He is curious about the cats and can be annoying to the cats, but he is safe enough that he is allowed to sleep free at night. He will chase an outdoor cat that runs. We consider him to be cat-workable. Cat-workable means the owner will need to monitor interactions with Oskar and resident cats for an unspecified amount of time.
Oskar is continuing bi-monthly medicated baths until his hair regrows.
After his arrival in rescue we learned that Oskar has a chronic condition that occurs in German Shepherds, known as perianal fistulas. This condition is managed with daily medication. He is great taking his pills.
