Orion Siberian Husky Eufaula, OK

When I first visited Husky Halfway House in the summer of 2023, Orion had already been there for over a year, and I fell in love with him instantly. He was so excited to meet someone new that he completely forgot his manners-jumping up on me, grabbing at my hands with his mouth, and making it abundantly clear that he wanted my attention all to himself. Just like my own husky, Orion wasn't ready to share the spotlight until he wanted to!

I remember constantly moving around the yard because if I stopped for even a second, he'd rush over to try and lick all the sunscreen off me. Between him and the summer heat, I went through an absurd amount of sunblock!

Orion is full of personality, and back then, I was certain he'd be adopted by the time I came back. But today marks 1,026 days-almost three years-that he's been with us. While that's far better than being a stray on the streets of Texas, where he came from, it's far too long for such a special dog to wait for his forever home.

Orion is a medium-level sasshole, if we're being honest. He rules over the calmer, easygoing packs like the top dog he believes he is-but throw in a true alpha, and they'll put him in his place every time. Which is fitting, considering that when he first arrived at the rescue, Orion was so afraid that Melissa had to hand-feed him. He wouldn't go near the feeding stations because of the other huskies. Thankfully, he can eat outside with the rest of the dogs and while he likes food, his heart has always been set on one thing-his person.

Orion doesn't need a pack. He's a dog who would thrive as the only pet, happy to have all your love and attention. He will bond deeply with his human and could care less about other dogs. Loyal and steadfast, Orion would put himself between you and anything that tries to harm you. He's content to do whatever you're doing, whether it's lounging on the couch or heading out for a walk, but he's just as happy hanging out at home with his treats and toys while you're at work.

After all this time, Orion is ready for his person to finally find him. He's waited long enough-could you be the one to make his wait worthwhile?
