"My name is Oreo. I'm a very grateful dog. You see the man who owned me was not a nice man. He kept me in a small crate covered with thick plastic with nothing to sleep on but a urine filled mat. As each day came and went along with the seasons I went from hope to despair to hopelessness. That day the folks from the shelter came to get me they had bright faces and reassuring words. They tried to be kind, but I hadn't known kind. I was leaving behind a terrible place with a terrible human. Why would these humans be different? But they were different. Initially I wasn't easy. I wanted nothing to do with the human race. But no matter what my mood was like these humans never gave up on me. No matter how far I tried to push them away it seemed they were even more determined to reach me. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. They kept me to save me. I remember the day; even the moment it happened. I felt different. I think it's what you humans call love. For the first time in my life I exhaled. I felt relaxed and I felt safe. I heard the Shelter Director squeal ..'Look - Oreo is smiling and she's wiggling at the same time and look at that tail!' Me smiling? I have a tail that wags? A body that wiggles?' And that's the day I knew everything was going to be OK. So I was wondering....Would you take a chance at love? Would you take a chance on me? Now that I know what it's like to receive unconditional love I've got a whole lot of catching up to do. And I'd love to get all the love that was given to me and share it with you!"
