Meet Opie

PLEASE ONLY APPLY FOR OPIE IF....

1. You have another playful young dog 25 lbs or smaller.
2. Fenced backyard (Opie is not a good apartment dog - he barks a lot)
3. You are active and adventurous - Opie has tons of energy.
4. No young kids - Opie will get mouthy when not properly exercised.

Opie
2 years old (This is the vet’s guess based on his teeth)
12 lbs
Bichon - Maltese Mix (This is our best guess, again we don’t know for sure, since he was a street dog.)

Other Dogs: Yes – he loves to play with other dogs, so much that he barks when he wants to play. He is very local while playing and wresting with other dogs. So if a dog barking at your dog will scare your dog, Opie is not a good match.

Cats: Unknown – he has not been cat tested.

Kids: Unknown – he has not been around kids.

Housebroken: Almost, about 90% potty trained (Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust.)

Leash Trained: Yes - he walks good on his harness.

Crate Trained: Yes - but does fine in the home loose, he does not need to be in a crate.

Sheds: No

Barks: Yes – but he can be whiney - if he sees you and wants attention. He barks at strangers for a minute or so then will settle down.

Car rides: Yes, he is good in the car.

Opie is a very energetic and a loving little guy. He loves to be held and give kisses. He is a social butterfly. Opie will make a great cuddle buddy. He likes to be next to his person. He loves to play with other dogs and run around the yard. Opie will need a house with a fenced backyard. A home with another dog playmate or trips to a dog park would be best. He needs to burn off some of his energy.

Opie was an owner surrender in Mexico because he lived most of his life in a 4x4 foot area outside in isolation and Opie was very sad because he is so social and craves to be around his people/family.

Adoption fee is $750 ---- that covers all of the vaccines (DHLPP, Rabies and Bordetella), current on flea/tick treatment, fecal testing, deworming, sterilization (spay/neuter), Heartworm-Lyme-Ehrlichia-Anaplasma Blood Test, dental cleaning (if needed), Distemper and Parvo blood test to make sure the dog is disease-free, Health Certificate, Microchip with registration, grooming before transport and the expensive flight transport from Guadalajara, Mexico to Portland, Oregon. We will also send the dog home with a brand new collar, ID tag, leash and a small bag of the kibble they are currently eating (Kirkland Nature’s Domain – Turkey & Sweet Potato (the red bag at Costco).

Each dog we fly up to Oregon for adoption costs us a minimum of $550 USD (if they have no other medical issues), so the $200 extra of the adoption fee goes BACK into our programs to help fund the free spay and neuters for the street dogs and owned dogs in the poor rural villages in Mexico. (We average about 75 sterilization surgeries a month for the street dogs.) Adoption fees are payable via: Venmo, PayPal, Check or Cash. Fill out an online adoption application here: www.BAPBR.org

*Please know that we are a 100% volunteer ran organization, with no paid employees and we work full time jobs and have our own families to care for as well. Due to the large number of applications, we receive - we are not able to reply to everyone individually. If we think you are the right match for our dog, we will reach out to you and set up a meet and greet. Please understand that we really love our dogs and are very invested in their success in life. We try very hard to place our dogs into homes that will make both the dog and their people happy. Thank you in advance for understanding.

Most of our adoptable dogs are homeless street dogs or owner surrenders in Mexico. Please, follow us on Instagram: @MexiMuttProject and Facebook: “The MexiMutt Project” to see what we are doing in our community to help the dogs.

Due to the fact that we are a very small organization that cares highly about our dogs and are 100% volunteer ran, we are limited on the number of dogs we can rescue off the streets, because we just don’t have enough foster homes in Mexico to help. We are only able to fly up 5 dogs/once a month for The MexiMutt Project but in the meantime, our amazing volunteers are on the streets in the communities we serve in Mexico, feeding and flea/tick treating the homeless street dogs, as well as helping trap and spay/neuter the feral dogs and offering free spay/neuter services to locally owned dogs as well.
