Meet Opal
Opal is a 1 1/2 year old pit bull mix who weighs 35 lbs, and is all love and energy!
This girl is a very friendly, happy, playful dog. She would do well in most homes, is good with dogs, cats, everyone she meets! She can be a bit timid occasionally if she gets scared, but she bounces back right away. As a young dog, she's still a little jumpy and mouthy, so kids over the age of 8 will be best for her. Opal doesn't have a mean bone in her body, but she could accidentally topple a small child with her love. She also enjoys playing with other dogs, or is fine just coexisting if they don't want to play.
Foster family is still working on house-training, since Opal hasn't quite figured out how to alert when she needs to go potty. However, she keeps a clean kennel. She knows "sit," "come," and "kennel." Still working on leash training also, as she can be a puller.
Opal is described as medium energy - she's fine chilling in the house with a bone or toy to chew on, but also makes a great hiking partner. She does get spurts of Zoomies! In typical pittie fashion, she loves to snuggle. In the rare event she chews on something inappropriate, a verbal correction is enough to get her to stop.
Opal will need an adopter who will work with her on training to be the best dog she can be so that her reactivity doesn't become an issue down the road. She can be a whiner and occasional barker towards dogs and people, but she can typically be redirected with a treat. If her adopter is diligent about redirection right off the bat, there shouldn't be issues in the future. Opal is the sweetest girl who deserves the world!
Her minimum adoption fee is $195 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.
She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
