Meet Ollie - Special Needs Dog

We are a non-profit and an all-volunteer organization. Our adoption fee is $295. Please read this posting to answer most of your questions about me.

Please note this is a special needs puppy. He will need a dedicated family that can help him thrive with his conditions. We will be conducting a home inspection to make sure all his needs will be met with his potential adopter before we finalize the adoption process.

Hello meet Ollie, a 6 month old black lab that was surrendered to the the Hope Fur Pets Rescue. Ollie came to us when his previous owners said he just stopped walking, he was adopted out by a sister rescue and was fine when he left to be in his furever home. We have taken him to vets and had medical xrays done and he’s had some trauma to his back end/spine however the injury is unknown nobody seems to what happened. This doesn’t slow this sweet adventurous boy down at all. He is the most loving determined puppy you will met. He’s come along way from just scooting and crawling on the floor to sprinting after toys and trying to jump up on us. He plays well with others dogs, it might be beneficial for him to have another playmate. The chiropractor and Vet both said it’s fine for him to play, he does play roughly and it doesn’t seem to bother him. He loves to carry stuff around and chew on bones! When his food and water bowl is empty and he’s ready for a refill he will pick it up and bring it to you. He’s crate trained and does really well with potty training, sometimes he may have accidents over night because of the pressure from injury, he does alert you with a loud bark that he needs out. Some requirements that must be met, he’s been going to a chiropractor and it’s really helping, he will need to continue to see one probably every 3-6 months then maybe longer after he gets fully adjusted. Ollie also loves to swim, we have a local volunteer that picks him up at least 2 times a week to go swimming and it’s helping him out tremendously, so we would like his adopters to have a pool so he can continue to swim it’s good therapy for him. He would swim everyday if he could, but we are taking it slow and letting him gain strength with rests in between swim days. He may need wheels at some point in his life as he gets bigger, it’s uncertain right now. He could recover really well with treatments from water therapy and the chiropractor. During home inspection we will be looking to see that the home could accommodate wheels if he has to get them in the future. Right now he does well with ramps, a few steps, gravel, concrete and grass. We can provide videos of his progress they were too large to load. He’s all up to date on vet care appropriate for his age including heartworm prevention, spay/neuter, microchip and all vaccinations and ready to be the newest member of your home! As mentioned above we will be doing a home inspection prior to finalizing an adoption. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have via email provided below.

Us fur-kids deserve a second chance. Thank you for supporting rescues who help ensure we get one! And please remember to spay and neuter your pets and neighborhood strays! While I was at the shelter, I couldn't believe all of the wonderful dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens who are homeless. Take it from me, being homeless is no fun!

Application is required. No member of our organization receives proceeds from our adoption fees. All dogs have past experiences, preferences and personalities. Please always consider the personality and breed tendencies of any pup that you are interested in adopting to ensure that he or she will be the perfect fit for your home, for both your sake and his! Do not select a forever companion based on looks alone. Make this home his or her home for life!
