Meet Olduvai

Olduvai was born in our care on Feb. 16, 2021. He is very sweet and timid. He is eager to please and wants to be where his foster mom is.

Olduvai is leash savvy, but will pull when excited or nervous in new situations. He likes all polite dogs and loves people he's familiar with. He's getting used to riding in a car, but has to be helped in. His foster mom is taking him out to help him learn that new sights, scents, sounds, and strangers are curious instead of scary.

Olduvai has had xrays and was diagnosed in March 2023 with hip diplasia. Other than holding his right hind leg up on occasion, it doesn't seem to bother him. It doesn't impair his mobility and he loves to race around the pasture with his doggy friends.

Olduvai (our "Ollie") is on supplements that have improved his mobility. They can be purchased from Chewy (NaturVet Moderate Care Glucosamine DS Plus Soft Chews Joint Supplement for Cats & Dogs, 120 count + Amazing Nutritionals Turmeric Chews Daily Dog Supplement, 120 count). He takes one of each daily & the cost in April 2023 was $55 for a 4 month supply.

**********

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies.

Not all foster dogs are available for viewing during public events at Tractor Supply (360 Blowing Rock Blvd) in Lenoir, NC. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
