Meet Okra

Hi, my name is OKRA! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Timid at first, Goofy, Active, BIG LOUD VOICE
-Can Live with Kids: Yes, I should be able to live with dog-savvy, respectful kids ages 12+, pending a meeting at the shelter.
-Can Live with Cats: No history - I can be placed in a home with a confident cat who will not run from me. Our introduction should be slow and structured for the cat's safety.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, at the adoption counselor's discretion. I am a boisterous young dog and don't have the best manners, so my canine companion would need to be very tolerant. No small dogs or senior dogs, please.
-Can do Apartment Living: Nope! You can hear my bark down the street. Shared walls are a no go.
-Potty Trained: Unknown, but I am a puppy and I can learn.
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, I must be signed up for puppy classes to set me up for a lifetime of success.
-Leash Trained: I don't really understand how leashes work yet, but I can learn!
-Energy Level: High! I'm an active breed dog and a young puppy. My adopter must be able to match my energy and meet my exercise requirements to be considered. Walks around the block won't do it for me.
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a spay
-Additional Information: Okra and her brother Catfish came to WHS as strays and are looking for their own individual forever families. They were most likely a pair of hunting dog prospects and will need patient guidance from their future adopters to be well-balanced companion animals. Okra is less confident than her brother and she needs more time to feel out situations before her curious puppy excitement takes over and she wants to snuggle and play. She is every inch a HOUND and her future adopter must be able to demonstrate breed knowledge during their adoption counsel to prove they are prepared to handle the breed-related challenges that come with loving these unique dogs. Does Okra sound like your dream dog? Submit an application today to be considered!
