Meet Oden

Meet Oden, a 4 y.o. Dutch Shepherd.

Oden had a rough life up to now. He was kicked, starved and locked in a pickup truck for extended periods of time. Witnesses saw him being beaten. A one-woman rescue saved him and moved him to an emergency foster home. She quickly determined that Oden needed more help than she could provide, so she called us.

Oden’s original owners live in a junkyard in a trailer. Most of the time they kept Oden locked in a pickup truck. They tried to euthanize him twice.

Oden is now at The K9Edge and when ready will move into their board and train program. The focus is to get his body and mind healthy and then polish up his obedience.

He is severely underweight and came in with diarrhea. We have him on a Rx dog food for control and on a steady diet, being fed small frequent meals to gain weight.

He has been to the vet for a full exam and blood panel and is now UTD on all his shots. There is no permanent physical damage from the abuse. He has some scars, but his wounds will heal.

He has some behavior issues due to the abuse and extended isolation. We are working on those issues and he is doing extremely well. Even with all the abuse he endured, Oden is a friendly playful guy! He has not shown any signs of aggression. He seeks attention and affection and loves to play. In the short time he’s been with us he has made tremendous progress. He knows his basic commands and learns new ones quickly. He just loves the attention whether it is work or just throwing the ball.

Oden will need a home that has experience with Dutch Shepherds or Working Line GSDs. He needs a job to stimulate his mind and exercise his body. That job could be obedience or a sport. Each day he gets stronger and more active.

He was with another dog in his emergency foster home with no issues. We don’t know if he will be good with all dogs.

He was with a cat in his emergency foster and he had no issues. We don’t know if he will be good with all cats.

We do not know how he is around children. Families with children 10 y.o. or older will be considered. Families with children younger than 10 y.o. will be considered on a case by case basis.

When he is healthy, we believe Oden will be extremely active. For this reason, we would prefer families with fenced in yards. Families without fenced in yards will be considered on a case by case basis.

Oden is not yet neutered but will be as soon as he is healthy enough.
