With a birthdate of Jan. 20, 2021, these sweet girls were born to a stray mama who was grateful for a warm, safe place to raise them. Mama's picture is included in this post. She weighs under 25 lb, but we don't know who Dad is, so they might be bigger.
Although only 22 lb, Octavia is comfy in a 42" crate so she can sprawl and stretch out her long legs. She's leash-savvy, but still wants to play with her friends on walks. She's house-trained when kept on a regular schedule. She ignores the cats in her foster home and plays with all the dogs.
Octavia is an affectionate girl once she settles in. She enjoys pets and attention from her fosters. She likes people and other dogs, but will bristle a bit during initial introductions. This is due to insecurity and will subside as her new family takes her out in public to learn that new sights, sounds, scents, and strangers are curious, not scary.
Octavia was adopted and with her family, including small children, for about 8 months. In her excitement one day, she bit one of their older dogs and so has been returned to us. Although they love her, they worried that she would do this again and their children would be drawn into the conflict and injured.
Octavia is a loving girl, once she is comfortable with her people, pack, and surroundings. She is working on tolerance for new people and showing improvement.
April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
