Oakley's Story

Did you know that when you adopt a dog from our program you save not only the dog you adopt, but also a dog currently in the Baldwin County Animal Shelter who gets to enter our program.

Oakley is very smart, friendly and confident. He gets along with all other dogs in our program, loves every human and has been a favorite in the Veterans Dorm where he has lived and trained since September 8, 2021.

Oakley has a great temperament, very easy-going and he is a leaner!

Oakley is proficient in sit, down, come, wait, stay, go to his spot, give, leave it. He is housetrained and rides nicely in a crate in the car. He is good on leash and is very gentle when taking treats.

Oakley has good inside manners and is playful outside. He REALLY enjoys squeaky toys. Oakley needs physical exercise either in a fenced yard or with an active person or family that will take him on regular walks and perhaps jogging with some practice.

Although we do not have specific information about his experience with children, based on his size and temperament, he would probably be a great friend for kids 9+ years who are kind and have dog experience.

Oakley has demonstrated a temperament and behavior that indicate he could be a very good candidate for additional training to become a therapy dog. We are hoping to place him in a home where he will become much more than just a family pet.

For additional information, photos and a letter from Oakley's trainer Mr. Gosdin, please see our program Facebook page at:
www.facebook.com/RiverbendJailDogs
