Nysa nka Luna is no longer accepting applications! German Shepherd Dog Mix Portland, ME

Luna (formerly named Nysa) came to AHR as a puppy, along with her sister Navi and was adopted in 2018. Her date of birth is 3/17/18. She currently weighs only 40 lbs, and needs to gain additional weight. Her former owners put so much time and effort into her training and truly loved her. They were unable to keep her due to family circumstances, which was heartbreaking for them. Luna was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which initially resulted in a 10 lb weight loss. As unfortunate as the IBD diagnosis was, we were grateful to learn why she was losing weight! She is now on a daily medication and special diet, and is slowly and steadily putting on weight!

Luna is smart, outgoing, and active! She needs exercise - both physical and mental. She is housetrained. She does have some separation anxiety, as she likes to be with her people. She has worked with many trainers and has all of her basic commands down. She bonds very well and loves her people. We are looking for an adopter who has previous shepherd experience. We do feel that any potential kids in her adoptive home should be older. She has been going to doggy daycare at Charlie's Friends and she has so many friends - human, canine, and even feline!

Luna loves snuggling with blankets and being lazy on a cozy dog bed. She enjoys the various smells of the city. She can be a bit nervous in new places. She does not like to be left alone outside in a fenced area. She is a girl that needs to know that she can trust you. She is incredibly smart and knows all her basic commands. She loves to work and train. She is very polite in the house and will ask before she gets on the sofa. She has greeted all people and animals in a friendly and calm manner. She is still working on building back her muscle tone from being sick. She has not met a person or animal that she hasn't liked!

PLEASE NOTE - We will check your veterinary reference, to ensure that current and prior dogs have a history of being kept up to date on rabies and distemper, have had annual heartworm tests, and are on heartworm preventative at least 6 months of the year. Current pets must by spayed/neutered.

This dog is available for adoption through Almost Home Rescue of Maine. We do require vet references and a home visit for adoption approval. All Adoption applications are completed on line at www.almosthomerescue.net

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending or Adopted.

Our adoption fee includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm / Lyme / Ehrlich tests,worming, flea preventative and transport costs.

Adoption fee:
Through 6 months of age $400
7 months to through 5 years: $350
6 years and under 9 years: $250 bonded pairs are $450
9 years and older: $200 bonded pairs are $250

We contract with Peterson Express Transport Service to bring our dogs to New England. Imported dogs are transported on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to transport.

Homes considering Puppies must be prepared for:
Flexible Schedules for Potty Training. Puppies can only hold urine for one hour per month of age.
Crate Training for the next 10 months to keep them safe from chewing on everything in your home.
Supervision with Children and Obedience training.
Socialization; both with new people, children and other dogs outside of the home.
Homes that want a well behaved dog, must be prepared to put the time, effort and costs associated to train a puppy.
Well behaved dogs are not born, they are trained! Please do not apply for a puppy if you cannot or do not have the time for a puppy.
