Meet Nutmeg - SPECIAL ADOPTION

Oh Nutmeg, if this girl was a human she’d be a movie star. She has the looks, the winning personality, the wit and humour of someone famous. She checks all the boxes, happy, loving, cuddly, easy to walk, good with most dogs, did we mention the Rottie lean! She does the typical Rottie thing of practically falling right into you for loves and pets. She also has this super awesome charm of grabbing a toy out of the toy bin EVERYTIME she walks past it, too adorable!!!

So why would we ever list her as a special adoption when she seems so perfect? Well, Miss Nutmeg who is around 2, was unfortunately born with some pretty terrible hips. Just like humans, dogs can be born with bad bone structure. Nutmeg suffers from hip dysplasia, and while it doesn't really affect her now, she plays, walks and has fun like a normal dog, she will need surgery at some point in her life. Our vets do not recommend surgery at this time but advise at some point she will need it. With hip dysplasia the issue is usually with the ball structure of the hip. Nutmeg is a special case as the issue with her hips lies within the sockets, they are very shallow and do not allow the ball joint of the hip to fit properly. For this reason she will eventually need a full hip replacement which will be at the adopters cost, thus the need for a special adoption. We need someone who is willing to over look the $$$ and invest their heart in her. But with this knowledge it is something that can be planned and saved for. Sometimes as we all know with dogs, illness and surgeries can come up quite unexpectedly. After Christmas, we will be making an appointment to have a surgical consult, so we will have all the important info to pass on to her new adopter.

In the meantime our vets are recommending a supplement treatment plan with limited amounts of strenuous physical activity. This is something non-negotiable with Nutmeg; she needs to be on supplements to aid in her supportive care for her joints. She will also benefit hugely from Aqua Therapy and Physio therapy, so bonus points if someone can adopt her that has connections in those worlds. We also would like her new household to have kids 14+ as she CANNOT play hard and children need to be old enough to really understand this, cats are going be a solid no, as for other dogs, something her size and with a low energy play style would be fine. As Nutmeg is a special adoption we have reduced her adoption fee to our senior/ medical rate.

Our adoption fee is $332.64 (including tax) for all dogs/puppies. Our sweet senior dogs (7+ year olds) are $101.92 to adopt. ALL adoptions include the spay/neuter, first set of shots, microchip and a free vet check! Hours for adoption viewings are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am until 6 pm. Please be advised that most of our dogs are strays, so we typically do not have background history on them. To meet any our pets, please visit the Vancouver Animal Services Shelter at 1280 Raymur Avenue in East Vancouver, or call 604-871-6885
