Nutmeg's Story
Meet Nutmeg — our sweet, soulful survivor

Or as we lovingly call her, Nutty Banana —because once you get to know her, you'll see her silly, affectionate, and wildly smart side shine through.

Nutmeg has spent nearly her entire life in and out of our shelter. When she was rescued last November, she was in heartbreaking condition—emaciated, covered in mange, completely shut down emotionally, and shockingly, full of BB pellets (found during a routine x-ray ). She had clearly endured a life of pain and neglect.

But today? She's healed—inside and out.
Thanks to months of love and care, Nutmeg is now healthy, playful, and deeply adored by everyone who knows her. She's our longest resident and a staff favorite, having spent time in a foster home and with shelter employees during temporary breaks.

When our shelter flooded, Nutmeg was one of the lucky dogs who got to crash in a real home... and she thrived. Zoomies in the yard, snuggling on the couch, playing with toys—it was clear this girl is meant for home life, not a kennel. Sadly, when the shelter reopened, she was the only flood dog who had to return.

Now, we're on a mission to find her the forever—or foster—home she's been waiting for.

Nutmeg's Ideal Match:

Nutmeg is not for everyone—and that's okay.
She's a fearful, sensitive soul who takes her time learning to trust new people. But when she lets you in? You'll experience one of the most loyal, goofy, and loving bonds you could ever imagine.

Once bonded, she's incredibly affectionate, quirky, and smart (too smart sometimes!)

Best as an only pet or with extremely slow intros to another calm dog (we're talking months to do it right)

Loves quiet hikes, playing in water, learning new tricks, and being your shadow

Fully potty and crate trained, knows tons of commands, and thrives in a calm, structured home

She's come so far and deserves someone who sees her for the hidden gem she truly is.

What She Needs:

We're looking for a compassionate adopter, long-term foster, or foster-to-adopt home who understands fearful dogs and is ready to offer Nutmeg the patience, love, and consistency she needs to keep blooming.

After everything this brave girl has been through, she shouldn't have to go back to shelter life. She deserves peace, comfort, and a forever human to call her own.

Click on more about us to fill out our adoption application
