Nita (Juanita) Miniature Pinscher Mix Littleton, CO

Juanita was found in Puerto Rico on the side of the road. She could not walk due to multiple broken bones, most likely caused by car impact. She underwent extensive surgery and metal implants were inserted to stabilize the bones. She has recovered really well, can walk and run!
Unfortunately, she got a new problem with her knee (luxating patella) which will need surgical intervention.
Nita has always been always very skittish of people, nearly feral. She has arrived to Colorado in November 2024 and spent several months in foster with me. At first she would not let me touch her at all but we have been working with a dog trainer and Nita has already made progress. We can now leash her up, take for a walk without her fighting the leash, pet her chest or even pick her up. She also listens very well and I am amazed how quickly she understands what I am asking her to do. Very smart. Also very food motivated. She does love other dogs and will likely open more if there is another dog, or two, in the house. I thought she will never warm up to people, and best we can do is to just be able to handle her- but I was in for a huge surprise. After some time in a different foster home, when she met me again she was happy and showed it. She was wagging her little cute butt (has no tail) and jumping around me. And there was no other dogs around so it was for me! I couldn't believe it!
Asides from her special needs Nita is very cute and funny. When it is time to serve food she will run happily, zooming fast around the house, doing her happy dance for food! It is close to impossible to keep her confined in a small space without movement. She loves to run, jump and almost flies! Her leg is not preventing her from running, falling on the slippery floor falling, getting up and doing it all again with clear enjoyment! She even got herself a nickname: Ninja. She will make you laugh.
Nita is a happy dog, especially when accompanied by other dogs. She will try to dominated them. She is tiny but she thinks she is the boss, the top dog.
Currently she goes potty on potty pads inside, never missed the pad. We hope to teach her go potty outside as she learned using doggy door very quick, but it may take a while.
She likes to be in a crate as it is her safe spot but will haul if she is locked and left alone there.
If you think Juanita is cute, and have the love and patience to care for our special needs girl, we want to hear from you. We want her to go to a house with at least one other dog, as this should make her feel more comfortable and should help her open up much faster. Foster period prior adoption is required - she would go as foster to adopt and we would have our dog trainer work with you to help with the adjustment.

Juanita is up to date on her vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. She is full grown, weights ~15lb and looks like a min pin - although someone said she looks like a bat :D

We ask for a $250 donation as the adoption fee, to help cover the costs of medical services and transport. We are however willing to accept a lesser amount to finalize the adoption with appropriate applicant.
