Meet Nezuko

Nezuko is around 2.5yrs old and in the mid 30lbs range. Her foster mom says she is literally the most well behaved dog she’s ever met. She walks beautifully on leash, listens well, follows through with her basic commands and is so sweet and delightful. She can freeze on walks when she sees something “scary” such as loud passers by or an unknown male on the street but has gotten much better since she’s been in foster. Nezuko is very friendly to people who come into the home, where she’s secure and knows she’s safe, regardless of gender.

Nezuko has recovered from both pneumonia and distemper. She astounded her vet with her recovery and they feel confident she will be able to life a happy and healthy life. When she was diagnosed with distemper, the biggest concern was the development of neurological tics in the next month which could cause further medical complications. However, with how well she’s recovered, her vet thinks the chances of her developing neurological tics is exceptionally low. Her foster mom can’t even believe she is the same dog as she has regained her energy and is now showing her playful nature.

Prior to treatment/diagnosis for her medical issues, Nezuko was showing defensive behaviors towards the resident dogs in the home. She would growl from inside her xpen. There was also an incident where a toy was thrown in her direction and one of the resident dogs went happily bounding after it. Nezuko got very defensive as this also happened her first day out of sequester. She did end up biting her foster mom’s arm that came in quickly to separate the dogs. They do not feel it was an act of aggression but rather Nezuko “freaked out” and panicked to quickly defend herself. Theyve continue to foster her after this incident occurred and adore her.

For the course of her treatment, the resident dogs were not in the home to reduce the risks of infection from distemper. They are now happily coexisting again in the same home now that Nezuko’s treatment for all illnesses is completed and the resident dogs are fully vaccinated against distemper. This of course was with consultation with the vet who has seen Nezuko and is also the primary vet for one of the resident dogs. Now that she is healthy and feeling better, Nezuko is friendly with the resident dogs and even a friend’s dog who was dog sitting for a few days. The vet does advise against placing her in a home with puppies or dogs who are NOT vaccinated against distemper but adult dogs who are fully vaccinated have very little risk of getting distemper (there is minimal chance of “shedding” for 2 months post treatment).

Nezuko’s foster mom would love to see her find a forever home for the holidays. She is such a good, good girl.
