Nelson Chihuahua & Terrier Mix Chattanooga, TN

Olive, Nelson, Duncan, Franklin, and Felix are 5 dogs that were rescued from a filthy hoarding situation in Murray County Georgia where there were more than 70 dogs living in a trailer. A delivery man witnessed 13 deceased dog in the yard and fortunatley reported the situation to authorities.

They all look to be Chihuahua and Rat Terrier mixes. The vet estimates Nelson at 2 years old and he weighs 14.5 pounds.

Upon arriving at PPC the 5 dogs were extremely nervous and smelled horribly. All five were given baths and love. They should also all be treated as a flight risk and will need someone diligent with safety measures. Even though they are all sweet and social, they can still be easily frightened by fast movements.

Nelson will be neutered on February 25th. He is the most nervous and scared of them all so will need time and patience to adjust to new people and a new home. He will come up and smell you when you enter the room but usually stands back and observes until he feels safe. He is defintely getting more comfortable with the staff that he he sees on a regular basis and even climbed in the lap of our manager recently which is huge progress for him!

Here is what she says about him: Nelson is a sweet but shy boy who needs a lot of love and a lot of patience. He wants to be loved so much but will back away when you try to pick him up. You can totally see that he wants all the love that the others are getting, but he is still so cautious. You really must earn his trust. He
will bark at people that he is not familiar with but after a couple of meetings he is good. He is still considered a flight risk and he is not yet leash trained but will consistently use puppy pads. He is playful and loves toys, he gives lots of kisses and will jump up to give them to you once you have earned a little trust.
Nelson will thrive in a calm, loving, patient and safe environment. Not knowing exactly what orhow he lived in the horrible conditions he was saved from, he will need time to overcome all he has been through.


We're open Wednesday - Sunday 12 - 5 p.m but are doing meet & greets and adoptions by appointment only.

The adoption fee is $135 which includes a free veterinary exam within 2 weeks of adoption at local participating vets, up to date vaccinations, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, dewormer, flea preventative, microchip, & spay or neuter.
