Nellie is an incredibly special bulldog in need of a very specific home. She is a very shy girl- never barks, certainly no guard dog, never demanding, and always gentle. She is extremely low key- her ideal day is to lay in a dog bed near you, and occasionally walk up for some head scratches and treats, and then snooze more. Several months ago, Nellie was living a quiet comfortable life with an elderly couple in rural Mississippi. She was shy, but happy. Following the death of her caregiver, and failed transitions to friends without time to decompress, Nellie was without a home. She needs a family that will give her time to adjust. She is unsure with new people, gets startled by sudden noises and movements, and only responds to calm, gentle energy. Setting her up for success entails giving her time and space to approach new people and places at her own speed, and then positive reinforcement when she makes progress. She needs an advocate and patience. Most of the time she will simply want to go in her kennel if she is anxious. Please note it may take weeks in her new home before she is comfortable and asking for affection- but it absolutely will happen, and once she trusts you will become a loyal sidekick constantly leaning on you. Her transition is going to be more challenging than most of other adoptable dogs, but we know a patient and compassionate family is out there. Nellie is incredibly well-mannered, and would do best in a quiet home without children or other dogs.
