Meet Nellie!

Nellie is a 9 year old female pitbull mix! Nellie was brought into the Mutt Misfits program through a seizure of a local fighting and baiting ring. Nellie was one of many dogs taken from the ring to rehabilitate and help them find their furever homes! Nellie is spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations, preventatives and she's micro-chipped.

***This dog, along with the over 20 other dogs rescued from a fighting ring, has been assessed for behavior and temperament and approved for adoption. However, since we had training sessions donated to us, we are erring on the side of caution and slowly sending them all through behavioral training that will teach them basic manners and give them a good structure to build on with their forever family. Please inquire as to the status of this dog's training if you're interested in meeting and possibly adopting! The most important thing to us is to ensure that these dogs' horrendous past does not affect the future they deserve to have! ***

Nellie is crate trained and potty trained. She has accidents due to being an older lady, but will do it on a designated potty pad! Nellie walks politely on a leash and doesn't care about other dogs on her walks! She rides well in the car and loves to go on special outings for Puppucinos and chicken nuggets. Nellie knows basic commands such as sit, come when called, etc.

Nellie has been through an absurd amount of abuse in her life time and it shows in her lack of socialization. Nellie has very awkward social skills and is actively working on making friends with her foster siblings, but much prefers to be with her foster parents and other people! The behavior based training program will help develop her social skills, but Nellie would thrive in a house hold without other animals. She has not been around children or cats.

At first when Nellie went into her foster home, she had to be picked up and carried out of the car due to being so scared. She was silent and cowered in the corner of her bed in her room. Her foster mom sat in her room and worked on the floor for days to gain her trust. It took her weeks to let her foster dad come near her or even touch her. She didn't understand toys or snacks, but slowly and surely she got more comfortable with her foster parents. She now jumps up on her foster dad and their guests when she plays and doesn't have any fears! She actually prefers her foster dad now, because he plays her favorite game "Catch the Piggy" where they chase each other in the yard like a game of tag. Nellie will crawl onto anyone's lap (despite being a chunky girl at 70lbs) and take a happy nap! Nellie is a sweet old lady with a big personality. She has very few teeth due to them being ground down and removed from her abusers. Nellie almost understands how to play fetch and loves to chase after anything you'll throw for her - she hasn't mastered bringing anything back but it's still a very fun game for her. Nellie likes to make nests in all blankets she finds and curls up on the couch to binge watch Netflix! Despite the abuse she's suffered, Nellie has persevered and now loves to be a normal dog. She took a few weeks to get used to men and any new visitors, but has now warmed up to everyone she meets and has always been very loving. Nellie has an infectious-toothless smile and you can't help but fall in love with her!
