Meet Nate

Hiya… I am Nate and I am a sweet 3 year old special needs English Bulldog. I was surrendered to IEBR in June 2017 with some mobility issues to my back legs. I also have urine and fecal incontinence but I wear a belly band like a champ. I was taken to an orthopedic specialist who did not see any broken bones but did give Club IEBR the unfortunate news that my condition is all due to a prior spinal injury. This was heartbreaking and shocking news for Club IEBR. You see they really hoped that I could be surgically fixed.
Another concern is that I drag one of my back legs which results in an open sore. My wonderful foster mom wraps my leg to allow the wound to heal, but due to my past history with this wound causing infection-I am showing signs of severe severe arthritis that they tell me a 3 year old dog should not have. Due to all this my back leg has been amputated. I use a chart for outside the house but inside i get around just fine on my own.
I am happy all the time and do not know or care about my disability and I refuse to let it slow me down. I can run and I can play so please don’t feel sorry for me! Lastly, I eat a raw diet and this helps with my fecal incontinence. I truly love to be with my people so if you are looking for some love, I am your guy. I know I require special assistance and a lot of work but there is a special someone out there for me. Is it you?

December 31st 2017 I left for a big trip to Illinois. It was finally time for all my surgeries to happen. The second week of January, I had soft palate correction surgery. Thank goodness! I can breath so much better now! The vet said that it was one of the longest palates they have seen...not sure if I'm proud of that! I stayed overnight in the clinic and they treated me real nice. A few days later, I got a belly ache. Hmmmm...something felt different. I was full to the top with poo! I had to go back to the vet and get some help getting it all out. These are the issues of dogs with spinal injuries. Once recovered from that, a few days later, I had my big surgery...my leg amputation! I had a lot of people thinking of me and sending me positive energy. I did fabulous! I had a great doctor crew! I have to work on getting my big leg stronger. I need to do some physical therapy. I get my sutures out soon and then I start to ride in my cart. Wheeeee!
