Meet Narfi

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION.

1. Narfi should be the only dog in the house.
2. He needs a quiet environment.
3. He needs a fully-fenced yard.
4. Any children should be aged 12 and up.

1 year old male Doxie/Min Pin mix, about 14 pounds.

Narfi is a shadow. He always wants to be touching his human. On occasion, when he finds his favorite ball, he will chew on it and chase it around. He loves to lay out in the sun or be buried in blankets. Narfi is mostly blind but manages well using his other senses. He struggles in the dark to see obstacles so tends to miss a step or bump into things more frequently at night. Once he knows his surroundings, he can navigate a few steps, how to get on/off a bed or couch and generally will not run into much. Narfi was most likely hit by a car before he came into rescue and had his jaw broken and took a knock to the head. His lower jaw is crooked. And it explains why he had sight issues. This does not slow him down one bit! He can eat with no problem! His food might get shot out to the side of his mouth occasionally, but he sniffs out the lost piece and chows down. He gives sideways kisses and regularly will have his tongue poking out the side of his face. Quite adorable! He has luxating patellas in both knees which is not currently causing him any issues. It may be a concern as he gets older. He does well on walks with reinforcement that you have his back and will make sure he is safe. We are currently working on the command step up/step down to help him with curbs or stairs in unfamiliar environments. Since he is mostly blind, he gets startled by people walking into a room without announcing themselves and is more sensitive to door knocks or random house noises. He will growl and bark when he is startled but calms down quickly when reassured that he is safe. Narfi needs to be a solo dog. He gets along with his buddy Reny but does not like energetic dogs that move too fast for him to see them well. Narfi would be best suited for someone who is home most of the time with a calm lifestyle. He would be in heaven with someone who would let him sit on their lap all day long. He knows how to use the dog door to take himself out. He does not like it when you shut a door (going to the bathroom for example). He worries when he can’t get close enough to see you. He thinks that you left him and will cry for you to come back. Narfi needs a secure home with a person that can be his guide and whole world.

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
